Before cleaning it is advisable to remove any alkaline scale deposition by treatment with an acidic cleaner (for example RO404).
Chlorine-free product water should be used to make up a 1 – 2 % w/w solution of RO418Plus. This is done by using a mixer or by circulating the solution through the cleaning pump. The cleaning solution should be circulated through the elements for one hour. The flow rate should be as designated by the membrane manufacturer or equipment manufacturer. Soaking the membrane for several hours should be followed by 15 - 30 minutes recirculation. The desired strength of the cleaning solution and the cleaning time depend on membrane fouling and should be established by experience.
This sequence may have to be repeated in the case of heavily fouled membranes, and it is recommended that the cleaning is carried out at the maximum temperature which the membrane manufacturer will allow.
After the cleaning process the membranes should be rinsed with clean water to remove any residual RO418Plus. When the plant is returned to duty, product water should be discarded for at least 15 minutes.
