Application

Treatment and Dosage Requirements

Before cleaning it is advisable to remove any alkaline scale deposition by treatment with RO401 or RO402 at pH 2.0, taking care not to exceed manufacturer's recommendations in terms of pH and temperature.

Chlorine-free product water should be used to make up a 1.0 - 2.0% w/w solution of RO412. The cleaning solution should be circulated through the elements for one hour at a temperature of 30C and the pH adjusted to 11.0 by the addition of more RO412. The flow rate should be as designated by the membrane manufacturer or equipment manufacturer. Soaking the membrane for 2 - 4 hours should be followed by 15 - 30 minutes recirculation.

This sequence may have to be repeated in the case of heavily fouled membranes, and it is recommended that the cleaning is carried out at the maximum temperature which the membrane manufacturer will allow.

After the cleaning process the membranes should be rinsed with clean water to remove any residual RO412. When the plant is returned to duty, product water should be discarded for at least 15 minutes.
