  • Investments in drum washing facilities and equipment, have assisted WTP increasing the number of drums reused from 13,956 in 2022 to 20,900 in 2025.

This was an increase of reused drums from 30.10% to 41.92%.

  • An Empty Drum Consignment Note is required for every collection to ensure compliance with transport regulations and to provide the necessary COSHH information for WTP’s internal processing procedures.

Collections cannot be completed without this documentation.

  • WTP provides customers with quarterly and annual certification to support their environmental and ESG reporting requirements.

Our service helps organisations demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and compliance with the waste hierarchy outlined in the The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011.

  • The introduction of the Digital Waste Tracking System will not affect the existing return process.

When collected from customer sites, the drums are classified as reusable packaging rather than waste. Following collection, each drum undergoes WTP’s washing and inspection process. Only containers deemed unsuitable for reuse are then classified as waste generated by WTP.

Any drums that fail inspection are subsequently sent for recycling by WTP and will enter the Digital Waste Tracking System at that stage.

  • All the drums collected by us are pressure washed internally and inspected for obvious damage, such as punctures. A percentage of these washed drums are pressure tested to ensure they can be used for classified products again. Re-used drums are also marked and recycled on a set number of times before going to be chipped, as would any drum that fails the initial inspections.
