WHY WE CHOSE THE PRIMELAB 2.0 FOR OUR NEW ENGINEERS KITS

As part of our ongoing review of WTP’s test kit range, we wanted to build our new engineers’ kits around equipment that could support a broad range of water testing requirements, while remaining practical for everyday use in the field.

The PrimeLab 2.0 photometer from Water-i.d. stood out as a strong foundation for both our Engineers PrimeLab Kit and BG50 PrimeLab Kit. Its measurement capabilities, flexible testing options and connectivity features made it a natural choice for the next stage of our test kit development.

ONE PHOTOMETER, A WIDE RANGE OF TESTING OPTIONS

One of the key reasons for choosing the PrimeLab 2.0 is its versatility. With more than 140 available parameter methods, it offers the flexibility to support a wide range of water testing applications.

The photometer uses 18 wavelengths across the ultraviolet, visible and infrared regions of the spectrum. This multi-wavelength technology supports a broad selection of measurement methods, including specialist applications such as PTSA and fluorescein measurement.

For water treatment engineers, this breadth of capability provides a flexible platform around which to build a testing kit suited to different requirements.

DESIGNED FOR PRACTICAL USE

The PrimeLab 2.0 combines its measurement capabilities with features designed to make testing more straightforward.

Key features include:

  • Large colour HD touchscreen: The 5.5-inch display provides a clear interface for accessing information and navigating testing procedures.

  • Step-by-step testing guidance: Instructions, animations and links to user videos are available to help guide users through individual testing methods.

  • Multiple vial formats: Interchangeable adapters accommodate 24 mm and 16 mm glass vials, as well as 1 ml semi-micro vials, supporting different testing methods.

  • Connectivity options: Wi-Fi, USB and Bluetooth connectivity provide options for connecting with compatible devices and software.

  • LabCOM® software, app and cloud: Compatible tools support the management, synchronisation and review of test results, with options for generating reports and sharing information.

  • QR-code scanning: The built-in camera supports QR-code identification of sampling points and reagent packaging, helping users associate results with the correct sampling location and select the relevant testing method.

Together, these features offer more than a straightforward photometer. They provide a flexible testing platform that can support both current requirements and potential future changes to an engineer’s testing needs.

WHY IT WORKS FOR OUR ENGINEERS’ KITS

Although the PrimeLab 2.0 is central to both new kits, we recognise that not every parameter is best tested using a photometer alone.

Our technical team and WTP consultants considered the wider range of methods available when developing the kits, combining the PrimeLab 2.0 with complementary equipment, including drop tests, electronic meters, a refractometer and tablet-based testing.

This approach allows each kit to bring together different testing methods in one organised package, rather than relying on a single instrument for every requirement.

The Engineers PrimeLab Kit and BG50 PrimeLab Kit also offer a choice of PC450 or PCSTestr meter, providing options to suit different testing requirements and budgets.

BUILT AROUND FLEXIBILITY

We also wanted the physical design of our new kits to be as practical as the equipment inside them.

Both kits are supplied in a robust Peli case, with coloured, interchangeable foam inserts that fit together like a jigsaw. This modular layout allows the internal configuration to be adapted to accommodate additional reagents, alternative meters or comparators where required.

Combined with the flexibility of the PrimeLab 2.0, this gives engineers a practical, organised solution that can be tailored to their individual needs.

THE FIRST STEP IN FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS

Selecting the PrimeLab 2.0 is part of a wider process of reviewing how we supply water testing equipment to our customers.

Our review of the WTP test kit range is ongoing. The introduction of these two engineers’ kits is the first stage in our continued efforts to assess testing methods, improve kit configurations and develop practical solutions informed by technical knowledge and hands-on water treatment experience.
